There are people who think that making the bed is just a waste of time. However, if you think about it, making the bed only takes a couple of minutes to finish, but it makes a tremendous difference in how the entire room will look. Choose your priority

Now, identify the tasks that you want to do, the tasks that need to be done and what can wait until the next day or two. Figure out how much time do you have. Given your availability, pick two or three cleaning tasks that should be given priority. Be realistic about this. This will help you stay focused and avoid doing other things. Get family members involved

For example, putting dirty clothes on the hamper instead of leaving it on the floor, putting back the toys or books after use, wipe up messes the moment they happen, and instead of placing your dishes on the counter, load them directly on the dishwasher.  If you can spend few minutes to sweep the floor, then do it. These are things which are possible to do every time, and it will save you from doing a lot of cleaning up in the end.
